The Manufacturer’s Edge Small Manufacturing Recovery Grants (SMRG) program is here to help. Our program offers consultative engagement opportunities valued at $10,000 to $20,000 or more that, thanks to a one-time state-funding opportunity, can be implemented in your organization for a fraction of the cost.

Applications are reviewed weekly and applicants will be contacted within 10 business days of submission for follow-up and next steps. Manufacturer’s Edge received state funding that will offset a portion of the project’s total cost.

Current grant opportunities require that the applicants be rural manufacturers who were in some way affected by the pandemic through decreased sales, increased costs, and/or workforce issues. The Tier 1 options are valued at $20,000 and require an investment of $5,000. The SMRG funding Manufacturer’s Edge receives will cover $15,000 of the project value, if your company is approved.

Planning for Success

Strategy development and implementation. Creating a mission, vision, and set of values that are implemented throughout the organization.

  • Planning for Success: Succession Planning
    The six-part workshop series, delivered over the course of 6 months, makes the case for planning for what will happen when the current leader, or leadership, changes. Having a succession plan allows for clarity and direction for stakeholders which outlines and creates a profound ability to effectively move the business forward with ease. This series explores the 4 elements of succession success and the importance of each of these elements independently, as well as, how they integrate.
  • Planning for Success: Financial Training & Decision Making
    All decisions are financial and 62% of all decisions made by non-financial managers/decision-makers are wrong or pure guesswork. This small-group program is specifically for management teams who need to make their operational decisions much more profitable, informed, and cash-flow positive. Over approximately 5 months, you and your management team will receive mentoring and coaching to better understand financial statements, make better financial-driven decisions, and communicate more effectively about financial issues.

Shape your company’s future success by strategically planning and growing your business while guiding and coaching your future leaders.

  • Leading Your Company: Effective Personal Productivity for Manufacturers
    Personal Productivity is the foundation of all effective leadership, yet many people lack the direction they need to achieve their desired results. Effective personal productivity enables individuals to manage themselves better so they can ultimately manage others better. This Effective Personal Productivity course consists of 8 virtual, bi-weekly sessions.  Over approximately 15 weeks, you will learn and practice proven strategies to increase productivity, improve communication and time and priority management, and become more proficient in setting and achieving goals.
  • Leading Your Company: Strategic Planning: Growth in a Post-COVID World
    This workshop equips participants with the knowledge and tools to thrive in the evolving business landscape. By assessing the company’s current situation, setting clear strategic objectives and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and developing actionable plans, participants gain the confidence and skills to navigate challenges and seize growth opportunities. The workshop fosters strategic thinking, adaptability, and effective decision-making; ultimately empowering the company to achieve sustainable growth in the post-COVID era.
Growing Your Company

Implement sales and marketing tools to grow your business and capture new opportunities.

  • Growing Your Company: Search Engine Optimization
    This initiative will launch a Search Engine Optimization (SEO) campaign that results in qualified traffic interested in engaging with that company’s website. Over approximately 6 months, the campaign will optimize the site to enable all major search algorithms such as Google, Yahoo, and Bing to index the website. Based on the context-driven images and copy, it will attract an appropriate audience to help educate and introduce the company. In addition, the project will also configure analytics and dashboards using Google analytics & goal tracking to better understand user-engagement & quantify the positioning and messaging for the company via engagement analytics. Our customers typically see an increase in sales between $300,000 and $500,000 as a result of this effort.
  • Growing Your Company: Lead Generation
    Leverage this program to target specific companies through a prospect list custom-built for your company’s core competencies and successes over approximately 6 months. This program will leverage an interlaced account-based marketing approach through email marketing and tele-verification to generate appointments for you in the short term while building a relationship of trust and credibility with your prospects to monetize in the mid-term. You will receive a database of up to 2,000 records and a paid subscription to a marketing automation platform including analytics.  This project has an anticipated impact of $300,00-$500,000.
Improving Operations

Leverage continuous improvement measures and streamline production, maintenance, and administrative processes.

  • Improving Operations: Profit Enhancement Operational Assessment
    With this assessment, you should find between 6 figures and 8 figures of additional profit margin, annually. This project provides an on-site Lean Assessment into operational improvements, using Industrial Engineering principles. A Gap Analysis will be performed onsite to identify opportunities to increase throughput, increase uptime, optimize flow, improve labor productivity, and increase overall efficiencies. All options will be explored, both non-capital improvements as well as equipment upgrades or automation. The final product will be in Excel presentation format.
Focus on People

Boost productivity and enhance engagement to develop a more resilient, motivated team.

  • Focus on People: Employee Performance Management Strategy Assessment
    Over approximately 6 months, we will evaluate your company’s employee or team performance management challenge and create and implement a plan of action to bring improved performance and an understanding of the strategy and tactics of better employee management throughout all levels of the organization. You will receive an employee performance challenge assessment and report out of findings, a plan of action, and bi-weekly employee performance management plan facilitation and accountability meetings to ensure successful execution.

Leverage data to make informed decisions & minimize risk to drive growth, innovation, and profit.  

  • Deciding with Data: ERP Analysis & Systems Selection
    Enterprise Resource Planning is the backbone of all business systems that supports your financial and operational goals. However, Gartner Research estimates that up to 75% of all ERP projects fail to meet their objectives.Over approximately 3-5 months, we will complete an end-to-end evaluation of your business process/system needs using an unbiased approach to help you select the ERP system that best supports manufacturing execution integrated with your PLC, sensors, robotics, workflow for visibility, predictive/preventive analysis and continuous improvement as your business grows.
  • Deciding with Data: NIST (non-DoD) Cybersecurity Framework Assessment
    The NIST Cybersecurity Framework (CSF) is a risk-based approach to managing cybersecurity that can be used by organizations of all sizes. The CSF provides a common language and set of processes for organizations to use to improve their cybersecurity posture. This proposed assessment will provide a gap assessment of the organization’s cybersecurity posture as well as guidance on options to address any risks. The assessment will be delivered over 30-45 days.
  • Deciding with Data: NIST 800-171 / CMMC DoD Assessment
    NIST 800 -171 and CMMC (Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification) affect any manufacturer who works with controlled unclassified information (CUI) from certain government agencies, most notably the Department of Defense (DoD), the General Services Administration (GSA), and NASA.This assessment will provide organizations working in the DoD’s Supply Chain a means to self-assess their compliance with the NIST 800-171.  We will provide you with all the tools required to self-assess your enterprise’s compliance with all 14 points of NIST 800-171 regulation and prepare you for CMMC readiness.  You will learn how to identify gaps in the way you store and transmit Confidential Unclassified Information (CUI), how to identify where your sensitive information is, and understand how it is accessed and by whom it is accessed. You will also learn how to develop a policy about access protocols including who and how access is granted.
  • Deciding with Data: Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) System
    Effectively evaluate and enable a company to select the Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system that best balances business requirements, total cost of ownership, implement feasibility and scalability. Decrease risk and uncertainty that accompanies systems assessments.

The Tier 2 options are valued at $10,000 and require a $2,500 investment. The SMRG funding Manufacturer’s Edge receives will cover $7,500 of the project value, if your company is approved.

  • Growing Your Company: Customize Your Website
    Manufacturer’s Edge will complete the design and development of your company’s website. This will include the graphics, design flow, layout and construction, content creation of all pages required, initial SEO, and image tags.
  • Growing Your Company: Improve Sales and Revenue / Sales Assessment
    Post-pandemic we are facing new expectations from customers and salespeople must adapt. What buyers have shared is they want and need a business consultant masquerading as a salesperson. What they want and need is a sales-trusted advisor, not a “sales rep.” Do your salespeople have the skills required by buyers and decision-makers today? If not, you are losing the business you could have won.
  • Growing Your Company: Leverage The Voice of Your Customers to Drive Profitable Growth
    The Voice of The Customer Research helps your team gain answers to the questions you want and need to have a customer-centric sales growth strategy.     This project will recommend a 3-part E-Commerce Website Upgrade Development Plan to (1) Assess Existing Resources, (2) Recommend Design, Content, Navigation Aspects, and Cart Functionality, and (3) Implement the Recommendations in e-Commerce Website Development.
Improving Operations

Leverage continuous improvement measures and streamline production, maintenance, and administrative processes.

  • Improving Operations: ISO 9001-2015 Internal Auditor
    This workshop will teach best practices, how to prepare for & conduct ISO audits, and get trained as an internal auditor so you can assess compliance based on your company’s standards. Participants will understand the requirements of ISO 9001:2015 to be able to conduct a successful ISO audit. Participants who attend the entire workshop will be awarded an Internal Auditor Certificate.
  • Improving Operations: Maintenance Program Gap Assessment
    This two-day workshop will evaluate all aspects of the company’s maintenance function. During this workshop, the company’s existing maintenance processes will be compared to industry best practices and standards that have proven successful in manufacturing such as 5S, preventive and predictive maintenance, work and materials management practices, computerized maintenance management systems usage, failure analysis, maintenance effectiveness, and equipment condition. Upon completion of this workshop, areas of improvement will be presented to the site to develop a time-phased implementation plan.

Leverage data to make informed decisions & minimize risk to drive growth, innovation, and profit.  

  • Deciding with Data: Operational Metrics & Dashboard Creation
    Improve key metrics up to an improved 15%. This project will deliver a customized Operational Dashboard, or “Pulse Report,” for your organization to keep a pulse on the metrics or KPIs valuable to your company. Simplify daily, weekly, and monthly performance reviews with this Dashboard. Make better decisions around quality, production, maintenance, etc. The final product will be in Excel presentation format.

What is a small manufacturer?

A small manufacturer is any manufacturing company with approximately 150 employees or fewer.

How much money will I receive?

The grant funding will significantly offset the cost of services to be provided to you. You will not receive funding directly. Instead, you will receive highly impactful consulting services at a fraction of the market price.  

Are the services free?

You will be responsible for a portion of the value of the project. Your cost for the project will be outlined in the paperwork you receive if you are approved. 

What services can I receive?

The services available for use under this program are listed on our website above. Manufacturer’s Edge has selected services across all facets of an organization that have been proven to deliver the highest impacts to manufacturers. If approved, you will receive an outline detailing the timeline, provider, expected impacts, and deliverables. 

Can I request reimbursement for other COVID-related expenses?

No. This funding has been allocated to offset the costs of the specific programs listed on the website only. 

Will I be approved for my first-choice selection?

While Manufacturer’s Edge will make every effort to accommodate your first-choice selection if you are selected, program availability will depend on several factors including funding and service provider availability and capacity. We encourage you to apply early in the process for the highest chance of receiving your first choice.

Manufacturer’s Edge wants to help as many manufacturers as possible. For this reason, each company will only be eligible for one service at this time, if approved.  

I have a home-based business. Can I apply?

Currently, Manufacturer’s Edge is not awarding grant-funded services to home-based businesses. If you would like more information about the resources available to you, please contact us 

What if I don't get approved?

If you don’t get approved, Manufacturer’s Edge may still be able to help you. We will retain your application and, in the event that additional funding becomes available, we may reach out to you again to determine if the funding meets your needs.
